For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son left in the 11th also. Got the box on Friday. We should be getting our form letters this week. After that, just remember no news is good news. Be happy when you get a phone call or letter but don't expect them. They are extremely busy and if you don't get a call, everthing is going good.

My son left for MEPS on Monday, May 11 but didn't make it to GL until very late Tuesday night. We got our phone call just after midnight. So I count his first day as Wednesday, the 13th. We haven't received his box yet. Maybe today or tomorrow. I guess we all do this, but just about every day, my husband and I wonder what he's doing. On Saturday morning, I jokingly asked if maybe he got to sleep in. My husband said, "Oh I'm sure. And they woke him up gently and asked if he wanted bacon or sausage with his pancakes." :)

My son shipped out on May 13th. We received his box Saturday morning and are waiting for the letter too. I hate not being able to talk/text him. I just wish I could talk to him for a few minutes. It feels weird saying "shipped out" since we live 90 miles away from Great Lakes which is about an hour and a half south.

Looks like our sons got there the same day. Maybe we'll have the same PIR date. We haven't received the box yet but we're about 750 miles away. Ours had a little further to travel. Maybe today. It's funny have so much anticipation about a box that may or may not contain smelly clothes/shoes and a cell phone!

Recieved my sons form letter. PIR is July 2nd..... Awesome...Does anyone know how his Liberty will work for the holiday weekend?

Those who are staying in GL for "A" School or training will have daytime Liberty each day of the long weekend. Those who are flying out will most likely fly out on the 3rd. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

Today started out a little slow and emotional. We are having beautiful weather here in the Chicago area, so naturally I was thinking about my recruit and wondering what he is doing since I know he probably isn't enjoying the weather in a way that we are. But, that slow and emotional start ended quick when I received a 5 minute phone call from my recruit TODAY!!!!! I cannot express how excited I felt after I hung up with him. I cried tears of joy! It was such an amazing phone call and I wouldn't change it for anything!!!! I had read somewhere on here that sometimes recruits are granted extra phone calls when they need to get more information for their security clearance. Well, it was a blessing for the need of extra security clearance information!!!!
He sounded so good and he still sounded positive. He did say that there are 2 or 3 other guys that they have all stuck together to offer support to one another. He has been busy everyday since he has arrived at Great Lakes. Up at 4am and go, go, go till 8pm. He also said that he will be able to write letters this weekend. This will be the BEST Memorial Day Weekend and Holiday EVER!!!
FYI: He arrived at Great Lakes on May 13, 2015.
