Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

There are no groups for the USS Gerald R. Ford, but you may find others with loved ones on that vessel in CARRIER Families!. Since the vessel is currently under construction in dry dock in Newport News, you may want to join Norfolk Sailors - Family & Friends.

It's not a good idea to post a pic of your future Sailor (or perhaps your Sailor) every time you post. See change 4 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link). Also make change 3 while you are there. There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

What is your future Sailor's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Join the group, Leavin' for bootcamp in October. You will meet others with loved ones leaving 10/08/2014 or that week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. I also suggest you go to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

I see your future Sailor has a contract for Mineman (MN). Apprentice Technical Training (ATT) is at GL after PIR for about 6 weeks and then your Sailor will go to San Diego, CA to the Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center for “A” School. The Rating Information Card for MN can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/mn.pdf. That indicates Ingleside, TX, but that is wrong; “A” School has been in San Diego for several years. Since ATT is at GL, you will be able to spend extra time with your Sailor following PIR. (See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend.)

I think their grad date will be June 17th, as Trent understood that it would take about a week for processing before they started BC
