I got the letter today! Doin' the happy dance!

Posted on October 7, 2013 at 5:53pm 5 Comments

My son left Oct 1st for GL. Its been a long, tearful week. I have been a basket case. Now today, I am actually smiling and so happy, relieved and feeling soooo much better! I got the form letter, with his handwriting filling in the blanks! I could have kissed it! Now I know his address, his ship and his graduation date!

Who would have thought a form letter could make me so happy?! LOL

His graduation date is Nov. 27th! The day after his sisters birthday and the day before…

He was here...now he's not

We had 3 months before he was scheduled to leave for boot camp. I planned on making the most of the time, every precious day. I took him and his sister to a Jimmy Buffett concert. We went to a cubs baseball game. Lots of family dinners and one on one time together. Making good memories. In spite of all that... its incredibly hard. The time flew by!

Today I woke up wondering how he was doing. I went to bed hoping he was ok. Such a short call...you all know what I mean. I am familiar…

Hi,  Thanks so much for your understanding words.  I have been in a fog since he left.  I am getting better.  I did get a 5 minute call from him today and it was wonderful.  He sounded so good, I couldn't believe it.  He didn't sound down or anything.  He said he was eating really good, a little tired etc, all the things you would expect.  Just hearing his voice was wonderful, I had the feeling come over me, it was like wow!!  So looking forward to Thanksgiving.  I tried to tell his little brother about it, but he wouldn't listen to it.  He is angry with him for joining, but for the most part, he just misses him.  When my SR decided he was going to enlist he started really focusing on spending time with his little brother who is 13.  They had the typical relationship, but over the waiting months, they really formed a strong bond, they were together all the time. Then bam, he was gone.  He will get through it and we will help each other every step of the way.  This group has been a life saver for me!!  Thanks and hope to talk to you soon.

You may want to make changes 3 and 4 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile).

Since you have an SR at the RTC, you can change "Waiting to leave for Boot Camp" above to "Enlisted."  Join the group, Leavin' for bootcamp in October, to connect with others with loved ones who left the same day and may have PIR together.

You may want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and PIR Reference Information. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.
